πEnd of Day Routines:
If you are aware that there will be a change to your child’s end-of-day routine (being picked up instead of put on the bus, etc), please be sure to advise the teacher by sending a note with your child or using the communication platform (Seesaw, email) used in the classroom. This information is important to us to ensure the safety of your child(ren)! Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. Please do your best to have your ‘end of day plans’ in place before the school day begins, and to refrain from calling the office between 2:45 and 3:30 unless it is an emergency. Thank you!
π Join the School Council:
Calling all superheroes with a knack for making a difference! The School Council is where parents, teachers, and administrators come together to discuss all things school-related. By joining this mighty team, you'll have the power to share your ideas, suggestions, and concerns, ensuring your voice is heard when important decisions are made. Together, we can create an educational environment that's out of this world!
*If you’re interested in joining or attending School Council, watch out for the email next week where you can nominate yourself to join as a voting member. Parents are also welcome to attend ANY School Council meeting throughout the year without being a voting member. Our first meeting is October 3rd at 6 pm in the library.
Every school has a school council—a committee of elected parents/guardians, community representatives, staff and sometimes students. School councils have an advisory role. They help to provide the community voice and parent/guardian perspective on important school topics.
Why join school council?
Serving on school council is a way to have a direct and positive impact on your child's educational experience. Research shows that when parents/guardians are involved in their child's education, the level of student achievement increases.
How do I get involved?
School council meetings are open to the public, so anyone can attend meetings without being an elected member or voting member of school council. School council elections take place each fall. Watch for information coming from the office during the first 2 weeks of school! Attending meetings is a great way to learn about the work of school council before running for election or becoming a voting member.
Boost your school council's effectiveness
School council members are elected to represent the school community. School council meetings are not the place to address individual concerns. School councils discuss broader topics, such as the School Action Plan, new programs or initiatives, student well-being, student achievement and school-wide fundraising activities.
Learn more to improve your effectiveness
The Parent Involvement Committee runs an annual orientation event for school council members. This is a chance to get to know your Parent Involvement Committee representative, meet other school council members, gather important information and ask questions.
The Ministry of Education School Council Guide has tips and tools to help you run effective meetings and support student success through parent/guardian involvement.
The SCDSB Fundraising Resource Guide was developed to support fundraising. It includes information and ideas regarding fundraising opportunities, details on policies that apply to school fundraising activities and ideas to promote healthy fundraising.

π Unleash Your Volunteer Powers:
Every superhero needs a trusty sidekick, and that's where our volunteers come in! We have exciting missions waiting for you, including field trips, reading support, the lunch program, and more. Whether you have the ability to organize like Wonder Woman, multitask like Spider-Man, or have a heart as big as Superman's, we welcome you to be part of our incredible volunteer team. Your support will make a real difference in the lives of our young superheroes. A parent volunteer coordinator works to match approved volunteers with available volunteer positions at the school.
*If you’re interested in becoming a volunteer at the school, please contact Lori Jankowski at [email protected] for more information.
Remember, even the smallest acts of kindness can have a huge impact on our school community. You don't need a cape or superpowers to make a difference – just a willingness to lend a hand and be involved. Thank you for being our heroes and for your unwavering support in ensuring our school is a place where each child can soar to new heights. Together, we'll make the next school year one for the books!
